Home Security Alarm Basics
A
home security alarm
system may seem complicated at first, but once you learn the basics of the alarm system you can master it easily, gaining that security feeling you long for, knowing that your home is protected by a reliable alarm system.
Home security alarms contain a few key components: control panel, security keypad, motion and contact sensors, fire and glass break sensors, sirens and alarm signs.
The control panel is the very heart of the alarm system and should be installed in a secure location to prevent burglars from disabling it. Some homeowners install the control panel in the safe room (panic room) or another secure place in their homes (closet, basement or garage).
The security keypad allows you to activate and deactivate your security alarm by inserting a special code or a password randomly chosen by you. You can easily see whether your alarm is armed or not, because security keypads have usually a digital display or warning lights. The security keypad is in many homes mounted indoors, near the entrance door. Rarely, some users choose fancier locations.
Motion detectors are alarming you in case of the presence of an intruder, no matter if a break-in happens or not. Magnetic contacts for window and doors trigger the alarm when opened.
Glass sensors are a standard feature for all alarm systems, while fire sensors are optional. However, it's good to ask the alarm system security firm to include a fire sensor to increase the security for your home.
Sirens are a very important acoustic part of the alarm system, as they draw immediate attention determining your neighbors to take action and eventually see the intruders. That will tremendously help the police in case identification is needed.
Alarm stickers are optional. However, we suggest that you use them, as many burglars are getting discouraged and don't break into a home with visible alarm signs.
