Home Security ABC – Tips to Keep Your Home Safe
There is something magic about our homes: a special feeling that embraces us every time we step
inside and breathe the air of the space we decorated with so much love and devotion; or that
"welcome home" we hear from our loved ones when we come back home from a long or short absence.
A home is a secure sanctuary. Its power works wonders on our soul, easing our anxieties, making
us feel secure. And when we get such feelings from our homes, no wonder we are so concerned about
home security.
But burglary victims and people having their homes in bad neighborhoods live in constant fear.
They don't go out, they worry about their homes when they are at work and they are even afraid to
leave kids or older people home alone. Well, here are some tips to help you, keep your home
secured.
Ordinary thieves look for unsecured targets, as they do not really have the skills we see in the
movies. Make sure your home is not one, and secure all the access points.
- Secure all your home entrances with metal doors. They transform your home into a difficult
target. They do give your home a heavy vault-like look, but they are worth if you want to secure
your home against burglary.
- Secure your garage entrance. Statistic, homes with an unsecured garage entrance are more
likely to be burglarized. Many homeowners ignore this piece of advice, and secure solely the main
home entrance.
- Secure your windows. Many homes have unsecured windows, making it very easy for thieves to
break-in. Never leave a window open when you are not at home, no matter if during daytime or at
night. An open window is an invitation.
- When away from home, use light timers to simulate activity inside your house. Light timers
work also on radio and TV sets. Exterior lighting is also very important.
- Last but not least, use a reliable alarm system to secure your home. Don't hide the stickers
from your security providers. Burglars do not want to be caught, so when they see a home with
visible alarm signs, they might as well pass it by.
